But the church, and yes, I, is/ am not doing all we can to help the homeless, needy etc. The Republicans keep saying that all that welfare can be taken care of by the private sector, but I don't see it. I am a Republican, but a very cynical one.Ameyernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-89223110051739502802012-09-04T10:48:38.802-06:002012-09-04T10:48:38.802-06:00Agree. It appears that my last two paragraphs failed to show up! Originally, the post finished this way:
This got me thinking: If I want "the government"
to do something, is it because it is the legitimate province of government
and/or something that only the government can (and should)
do? Or is it because I think it is a "good idea" . .
. just so long as it is "someone else" who (or someone
else's money that) is doing it "in my behalf"?

Put another way: If I am free to do something and I am able
(both morally and physically/mentally/spiritually) to do something but I am
unwilling to make the sacrifices on a personal level to achieve that end [other
than to call upon "the government" to do it in my behalf], then is my
vote or political agitation really a morally right thing? Why or why not?John Holzmannhttp://strategicinheritance.com/blog/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-24421936225615718872012-09-04T10:37:07.255-06:002012-09-04T10:37:07.255-06:00Laudable, but there are homeless who are too far g...Laudable, but there are homeless who are too far gone or too impaired to mow a lawn -- or be trusted around a lawnmower not to injure themselves or others. In other words, who need direct assistance (and there are not just homeless people in that fix).Hawleyeditnoreply@blogger.com
