Unbelievable!..."

Hmmm. What if this NPR story is an indication that the "liberal media" isn't as anti-Christian (or as biased...or as homogeneous) as those with martyr complexes say it is? Maybe Phillips (& Co.) should rethink their denunciations of pluralism? Pluralism doesn't just mean that I have to "allow" others to have different beliefs than mine--it also means others have to allow me the same freedom. Funny how quickly our we can decide to like something once it makes us look good.Naomihttp://www.sustainablemommy.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-54402580791616803772009-05-04T08:08:00.000-06:002009-05-04T08:08:00.000-06:00Mary -- I agree, Phillips is a much better speaker...Mary -- I agree, Phillips is a much better speaker. He carefully chooses his terms.

On the surface this mostly seems good. But then reminders of what else he has said, believes and encourages makes me step back and watch more closely.

Thanks John for continuing the conversation.

KimAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-31559769712960550892009-05-03T20:39:00.000-06:002009-05-03T20:39:00.000-06:00Phillips is surely much more polished of a speaker...Phillips is surely much more polished of a speaker, more careful with his words, not prone to hyperbole and sarcasm as is Swanson. In a way, I am not sure which is worse. I think Phillips is able to bring people along with him because he really doesn't say anything himself that would put up red flags, yet the books that he publishes speak otherwise. On the other hand, Swanson puts it all out there for everyone to see. You either agree with him or you are insulted by his arrogance.marynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-20981853447947222962009-05-02T12:56:00.000-06:002009-05-02T12:56:00.000-06:00I appreciate you giving Phillips a fair review her...I appreciate you giving Phillips a fair review here, John.

I so appreciated reading your other posts challenging patriocentric leaders in the Christian homeschooling movement.

Honestly, all I really get from Doug Phillips--here and elsewhere--is an intense fear coupled with indignation. Fear of, it seems, all the social changes the 20th century brought to Western culture. And an indignation towards those changes--a veritable disgust of them.Melissanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-81445240602342143322009-05-01T11:40:00.000-06:002009-05-01T11:40:00.000-06:00The discussion of Muslim demographics brings to mi...The discussion of Muslim demographics brings to mind a video passed along to me this week:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-3X5hIFXYU (It's about 7:30 long.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
