When I clicked on the video link, it did say "Ricky Gervais Comic Relief Red Nose Day", so it kind of helped me understand that it was supposed to be funny. The laughter (whether it was canned or live I don't know) also clued me in that this was satire. Perhaps a bit to biting, but I think it made a pretty good point.
