I don't recall what sort of treatment (if any) was given to my Leandra for this issue, but hers did ultimately close before discharge.

If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend you get a copy of "The Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies" by Dana Wechsler Linden, Emma Trenti Paroli and Mia Wechsler Doron, M.D. It's an excellent resource to have to look up all the terms you'll be hearing in the next few months...explaining in layman's terms all those preemie issues and treatments. Dr. Sears also has an excellent book that I'd recommend too: "The Premature Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Premature Baby from Birth to Age One." I found both to be extremely helpful resources during our NICU experience.

We Gracie's photo is on my desktop to remind me to pray for her. She looks good! And so adorable. Brings back a flood of memories, to be sure.

Best wishes,
Brenda R (Pennsylvania)Brenda (Estel) from SLnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-31086270704302785112010-04-21T06:29:40.893-06:002010-04-21T06:29:40.893-06:00John, I just wanted to take a moment and mention ...John, I just wanted to take a moment and mention that if the "hole" is a PDA ( patent ductus arteriosus ), please do some research on the use of motrin to close these "holes".

My oldest daughter had a PDA, back then there was a different medication, that wasn't near as gentle. My youngest son also had a PDA, we were told at our "teaching" Children Hospital that there were good results coming from motrin. I don't know if she is a candidate, but I was thrilled to try it. And it did work !! I don't know if motrin will work on one of the other "holes", a PFO ( patent foramen ovale ) as my youngest daughters wasn't so large to cause major concern.

I am keeping your whole family in my thoughts !Janahttp://homeschoolingintexas.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-28420333716097917022010-04-21T06:18:43.859-06:002010-04-21T06:18:43.859-06:00Excellent news! We'll be praying for that heart valve along with keeping the family, medical staff, and Gracie lifted up before the Father's throne.
I'll be away from the computer for a few days, but I won't stop praying. My daughter will check in and call me with updates.Kim_in_INnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888282.post-84270791604148804522010-04-20T16:15:53.239-06:002010-04-20T16:15:53.239-06:00I have a set of twins that are now 6. The 2.14 lb twin has some CP on her right side which only affects her movement, but she amazes everyone she comes in contact with with what she can do. The smaller twin has no problems at all (other than being the dinkiest 6yo you ever saw). I spent nine weeks where you are and know what a scary and yet amazing time it will be in your lives. People all over the world will be moved by God through this little girl. Treasure every moment and take tons of pictures because she will change every day. And please make sure her mother gets as much time up in the NICU as possible. We will be praying for her and your family. --a SonlighterTami Coxnoreply@blogger.com
